Celebration of 125yrs of inauguration of girls' school started by Sister Nivedita 1t 16 Bosepara Lane

On the 13th of November, 1898 Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi inaugurated the Girls' School of Sister Nivedita at 16, Bosepara Lane, Baghbazar in the presence of Swami Vivekananda and his brother disciples. The RKSM Sister Nivedita Heritage Museum and Knowledge Centre is celebrating the 125th year (1898-2023) of that very auspicious day by undertaking some value oriented capacity building activities among the girl students of class VIII to XII in the rural areas of West Bengal covering 40 High Schools spread over 8 districts, where SSM/RKSM has centers, namely, 24-Parganas (South), Bankura, Hooghly, Murshidabad, Purba Bardhaman, Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur and Paschim Dinajpur.

Financial support was extended by Paschim Banga Samagra Siksha Mission (PBSSM) under their “Innovative Initiatives” related Schemes like “Promotion of Reading Habits” and “Graded Exposure to Higher Institutions of Learning”. A short biography of Sister Nivedita (Atmotsorger Onyo Nam Nibedita) was distributed among the registered students. Around 240 students appeared in the written exam. Based on their performance, roughly one-third  students from each centre was shortlisted for a 2 day (19th and 20th August 2023) long cultural tour at Kolkata. In all 85 students from 33 schools and 16 teachers took part in the Heritage Tour. Students were taken to RKSM Sister Nivedita Girls’ School, Sister Nivedita Heritage Museum, Swamiji’s Ancestral House, Balaram Mandir, Mayer Bari, Belur Math & Sri Sarada Math.

A workshop on “Value-oriented Life Skill & Self-growth” was conducted and a Quiz Competition was also organized, where the students participated with great enthusiasm. Students were given a set of books, memento, certificate, etc. in the final Award Giving Ceremony held in Phani Bhushan Vidya Binod Jatra Mancha at Baghbazar, where each Centre had short cultural performance based on the heritage of respective districts. The Centre also offered a yearlong scholarship to the top three students on the basis of spreading Swamiji’s and Sister Nivedita’s life and teachings to three more students on each month.  The occasion was graced by the presence of Pravrajika Atandraprana Mataji, Assistant Secretary, RKSM, Sri Subhro Chakraborty, IAS, State Project Director, PBSSM, Sm. Puja Panja, Councillor, Ward-8, KMC, Pravrajika Vedrupaprana Mataji, Principal, RKSMVV, Sm. Debosmita Chattopadhyay, Administrative Officer, PBSSM and other distinguished guests. Total audience was around 700. The 4-hour long program ended with the thought provoking performance of the students of RKSM Sister Nivedita Girls’ School on environmental conservation and sustainability.
